I’ve worked in education for 17 years and have been teaching Maths for most of that time. I’ve spent 15 years in mainstream schools, four years teaching online, and have also tutored for 15 years, working both one-to-one and with small groups of students.
Over the years, I’ve worked with so many different young people, and one thing I’ve learned is that there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach to education. Every child is different and sometimes they just need learning to be delivered in a way that works for them.
Starting Seven Education felt like a natural next step for me. It gave me the opportunity to bring together everything I’ve learned throughout my career and use those skills to support even more young people. I’m passionate about helping students build confidence, enjoy learning, and realise what they’re capable of achieving.
There’s nothing better than seeing a young person who has struggled with education start to believe in themselves again. That’s why I do what I do, and it’s what Seven Education is all about.
What I love most now is helping students see that Maths doesn’t have to be scary or overwhelming. I enjoy breaking concepts down and explaining them in different ways so that learners can access and understand them. There’s nothing better than seeing that moment when it all clicks and a student suddenly says, ‘I get it!’
Those moments are what make teaching so rewarding for me. Seeing a young person’s confidence grow and knowing I’ve helped them understand something they once found difficult makes me feel like I’ve done my job well.
You can do it! That’s the one thing I want every student to believe when they start working with me. So many young people come to me thinking they’re ‘bad at Maths’ or that they’ll never understand it, but I truly believe everyone can make progress with the right support.
All I ask is that students give me a chance to help them and challenge them. Learning isn’t always easy, and sometimes it means stepping outside your comfort zone, but that’s where the growth happens. If they trust the process and keep trying, I promise we’ll get there together. I believe every student is capable of success, and I love helping them realise that for themselves.
Outside of work, I’m a busy mum of two who spends a lot of my time acting as a taxi service, taking the children to their various clubs and activities! Life is definitely busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Whenever I get a spare five minutes, I love heading to the gym. Most of the time I’m trying to work out what on earth to do once I’m there, but at least I’ve managed to enjoy an hour to myself!
I also love getting out for walks with my gorgeous black Labrador, Darcey. She’s always happy to join me, whatever the weather, and walking her is one of my favourite ways to switch off and relax.
